The pictures are beautiful. However I am disappointed with the text. I expected that the lower level books would include simple text with few words on each page. That is what is found, but the text is too varied at those levels with too many skills needed for students to be able to read at an independent level. As the levels of the books increase, the simplicity and the length of sentences does not change much. This means that instruction must be greatly varied and thorough before a student can even attempt a book that is supposedly at the same level they are currently reading.
I also expected the text to grow in length as students progress through the levels. Building reading stamina is an important step toward independent reading. These books do not build in length or repeat previous skills enough for students to truly increase their independent reading level.
I've placed these books in my classroom library. They are beautiful and will hopefully spark conversations about the Bible stories represented. I am disappointed that I will not be able to center very many lessons on these books. I was hoping to be able to build curriculum around books about Bible stories.
I do enjoy having the addition to my class library though, so I do plan to keep them.
